One Simple Act Saves a Life

A dear friend reached out recently about a relative who just discovered that their baby has a serious heart condition. Unlike many of the children we support, this little one was born healthy, but at just one month old, he caught a virus that attacked his heart. It enlarged his heart, weakened the muscle, and disrupted the electrical rhythm.

After spending many days in the hospital, and encountering several moments where Dr. Aso and his team critically intervened to save his life, he was finally discharged.

Unfortunately, one serious issue remained.

The babies family who lives in a remote village has extremely limited access to medical care and were afraid to go home.

Thanks to your generous support, our team had a portable heart monitor available for the family to use at home. This would provide them with an early warning if something would go wrong.

Our friend and local volunteer drove a long way to deliver it to them. Soon after it arrived, the baby’s mother called us in tears – the monitor said that his heart rate was over 200. She asked, “Can this be true?” We quickly took a video and sent it to Dr. Aso, who confirmed it was a dangerous arrhythmia.

They rushed to the hospital—and by a miracle, they made it just in time. Emergency medication was given immediately, and his life was saved.

We were praying they’d get there before it was too late. And they did! Though he has a long road for recovery we are grateful that one simple act saved his life. By giving, you help us provide life saving equipment, which provides essential care in urgent, life-threatening moments like this.

From the bottom of our hearts – thank you
